VueScan is compatibel met het Epson Perfection 4490 op Windows x86, Windows x64, Mac OS X en Linux.
Deze scanner heeft een infraroodlamp voor het scannen van film. VueScan's 'Filter | Infrarood schoon' optie kan worden gebruikt om stofvlekjes uit filmafbeeldingen te verwijderen. Dit lijkt op (en we denken beter dan) de ICE en FARE algoritmen.
Het scant met zichtbaar licht in de eerste pas en met infrarood licht in de tweede pas.
Infrarood reiniging werkt goed met alle soorten kleur-negatieve en kleurdia film, waaronder ook Kodachrome. Zilver-gebaseerde zwart-witte film werkt echter niet met infrarood reiniging omdat de zilveren deeltjes hetzelfde zien in zichtbaar licht en infrarood licht.
U moet het Epson-stuurprogramma installeren om deze scanner op Windows x86 en Mac OS X te gebruiken. Op Mac OS X is dit gewoonlijk al geïnstalleerd door Software Update, dus VueScan moet gewoon werken.

Merk op dat Epson-stuurprogramma's voor Windows Vista of hoger gewoonlijk ook werken op Windows 10. Drivers voor Mac OS X 10.6 of hoger werken meestal ook op Mac OS X 10.12 (Sierra).
